Seoul, November 22nd : .South Korean supergroup BTS has once more rewrote Kpop’s history by winning Artist of the Year at the American Music Awards. The award was won by the septet during the 2021 AMAs.It was broadcast live at Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles.
The show beat out five other big-names — Drake, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift, according to Yonhap News Agency.
After accepting the award, RM stated in English that he was truly honored to share this stage with these incredible and tremendous artists.
Seven boys from Korea, united by a love of music, met the support and love from the Armies around the globe.We would not take it for granted.We are so grateful.”Love to give this hour you guys,” RM said, referring specifically to the global fanbase, ARMY.
Suga stated that he didn’t expect to be awarded the award, and thanked ARMY.Jungkook stated in English that he believes this award will open a new chapter.Your help is greatly appreciated.Thank you, ARMY.
BTS featured amongst the top-name acts from all walks of the music spectrum throughout the evening.The band performed two songs: ‘Butter” and ‘My Universe”, with Coldplay performing the second song together.
The K-pop band was scheduled to perform the remix of “Butter” with Megan Thee Stallion.However, the American rapper dropped it for personal reasons.
The group is likely to increase their chances of winning a Grammy nomination for Monday’s performance.
BTS was the first K-pop group to earn a Grammy nomination.
It became the first K pop act to win the best duo or group performance award.This is the highest honour in music, and it’s single “Dynamite” made BTS history.However, it didn’t win.
The 64th Grammy Awards nominees will be announced Tuesday.The awards ceremony is scheduled for January 31st, 2022 in Los Angeles.
Critics believe the band’s unquestionable influence on the music business was once more demonstrated by the win.
Lim Jin-mo, a music critic, said that the win “showed that BTS is a superstar representing times”, via telephone to Yonhap News Agency Monday.
Lim stated that although BTS did not become famous with a single hit, it was loved by Billboard for more than two-three years and this feat proved the power of its fans.
