Gaborone, Nov 29, : .Botswana has confirmed 19 cases of the newly discovered Omicron variant Covid-19, according to a health official. At a briefing on Sunday evening, Edwin Dikoloti, Health Minister, stated that 15 additional cases of Omicron variant were discovered by additional analyses of positive Covid samples.This was after four foreigners had been declared infected last week.
He stated that he would continue to expand his conduct tracing to ensure no potential cases go unnoticed.
Dikoloti said that the first cases of Omicron variant in the country had been detected after four foreigners who had visited Botswana briefly tested positive for the virus.
The variant was confirmed to be the Omicron variant by Xinhua news agency on November 24.
Dikoloti stated that such detection should not be confused for Botswana being considered the country of origin.
