Both eastern and western coasts to see rain during cyclones brew

New Delhi, December 1, 2008 : A low pressure region off the Maharashtra coast is expected to bring rain over Indias western coast, north Maharashtra and Gujarat starting Wednesday.

It is expected to move into the Andaman Sea by Wednesday "It is likely to move westwards and become a depression over southeast, adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal by Dec 2, and intensify into an cyclonic storm over central Bay of Bengal during 24 hours," India Meteorological Department(IMD) stated Tuesday.It is expected to continue moving north-westwards and intensify its movement until it reaches north Andhra Pradesh–Odisha coasts on December 4.A lot of rainfall is expected in many places, with heavy rainfall at some places.This will likely occur over north coast Andhra Pradesh, south coast Odisha, and evening/night December 3.On December 4, there will also be light to moderate rain at most places.There will be heavy to very severe rainfall at certain places, with extremely heavy falls at isolated locations, heavy to very intense rainfall over coastal Odisha, coastal districts West Bengal, and the adjoining interior districts.

On December 5, light to moderate rain is expected at most places that receive heavy to very severe rainfall at isolated locations.This could be in West Bengal and the adjacent north coastal Odisha.

The IMD also stated that the northeastern countries would experience increased rainfall activity on December 5-6 with isolated heavy to very severe rainfall.This is due to the possible north-eastward movement by the remnant of the system during this period.
