Farmers have now stopped their agitation, but the BJP continues to tread cautiously, and the opposition has no choice but to criticize it.
After the suspension of the long-running agitation for 15 months, the government removed the three laws governing farm land and made certain demands. The farmers returned home after the suspension.
It was referred to by the opposition as victory for farmers and defeat for the government. The BJP has been cautious given the sensitive nature of this issue during the election season.
Although BJP leaders claim that farmers stirring will have no impact on assembly polls, others say it is because they weren’t able campaign according to the plan. The party sets the agenda and the other parties follow.
Despite facing many challenges from the farmers agitation this time around, the BJP is now most at ease. The farmers are finally freed after their nearly a year-long agitation ended and they have returned home.
Soon after the farmers had stopped stirring, Sanjeev Balyan, Union Minister, expressed joy, saying that farmers would return home feeling "satisfied".Balyan, who is Muzaffarnagar Lok Sabhas MP and also a leading Jat leader said to IANS that "after farmers return home to their houses, we will have the ability to reach out with our agenda to all people.
" Everyone used to discuss farmers agitation, and the date it would be stopped. He added that "Now we will visit people to tell them all about our achievements, the steps taken for farmers welfare, and then will set the agenda.
"
BJP Kisan Morcha national president and Fatehpur Sikri MP Rajkuamr Chahar said, it is not a matter of win or defeat but about honour and respect of farmers. He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi repealed the three farm laws keeping in mind the self respect of famers.
Demand regarding stubble burning was also accepted and a committee is being formed for the MSP, Chahar added."The governments agenda is clear -- Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas, therefore, the government took this decision in the best interest of all," he claimed.
The decision has nothing to do with the elections, Chahar opined.Though the farmers have returned home after suspending their agitation, the farmers organisations said they will continue pursuing their demands and opposition parties will continue attacking the government, so it is clear that this issue is not going to die down soon.
In western Uttar Pradesh, from where Rashtriya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait hails, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary have said they will continue to flag this issue and in Punjab, the Congress and the AAP will continue to attack the saffron party over the same.stp/svn/skp/
