Bhima Koregaon Case: SC grants bail on medical reasons to Varavara Rao

New Delhi, Aug 10 : The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted bail to 82-year-old P.Varavara Rao, one of the accused in the Bhima-Koregaon case.

he is not in contact with any witness.Additional Solicitor General S.V.Raju representing NIA was vehemently opposed to the argument of appellant and claimed that evidence suggests Rao is involved in deep-rooted conspiracy, and, under UAPA, he would not be eligible for bail.Senior attorney Anand Grover, representing Rao, said that, taking into account the age and the ailments suffering by his client, bail release should not be restricted to a certain amount of time, and could be granted without any conditions.

Grover demanded the highest court to increase medical bail in a suitable manner.Rao had approached the highest court to challenge the Bombay High Courts ruling of April 13, which denied his request to remain at his residence in Telangana.

However, the court extended the duration of temporary bail to three months on the basis of medical issues.In his plea, Rao presented to the highest court that any additional indictment would be the death knell for him, in light of his ageing and declining health which can be fatal.ss/dp.
