Dhaka, Nov 27, : , Bangladesh has suspended entry to South Africa for Travellers on Saturday due to the spread of Covid-19.The announcement was made by Zahid Maleque, Bangladesh Minister of Health and Family Welfare, who stated that the Bangladeshi government is aware about the emergence of the new South African variant, Xinhua news agency reported.
Minister said, “We’ve decided that travel from South Africa will be suspended with immediate effect.”
He stated that Omicron, the new variant, is very aggressive.
Minister says that the Bangladeshi government is also improving screening procedures at all ports.
The vaccination drive has led to significant reductions in the number of deaths and covid-19 infections in Bangladesh.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said that Bangladesh had reported 155 new Covid-19 deaths and 2 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday.This brings the total to 15,75,579 and the death count to 27,975.
