First test failed by Chaudhary and Bansal after AICC elevation

New Delhi, December 27, : Congress Treasurer Pawan Bansal, and ex-Lok Sabha Member from Chandigarh Harish Chaudhary have both failed their first litmus test.Chandigarh Municipal election results showed that Congress has fallen behind AAP and BJP.

He and Chaudhary were the UT In-charge for Chandigarh, but the AAPs growing popularity was not easily understood.In the Chandigarh municipal elections, the Congress was hit hard by AAPs rise to the top as the party most closely followed by the BJP.Harish Chaudhary played a key role in the operations to remove former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh.He was awarded the prized assignment from Rahul Gandhi.

However, his performance in Chandigarh will impact on his Punjab strategy.Sources say that Congress must reexamine the Punjab situation.

Many MPs have already taken up arms against Chaudhary and the Congress could see more violence in Punjab.Aam Aadmi Party, which was contesting the elections for the first-time, posted an impressive result.

The Congress was aiming at defeating the BJP but has now been pushed down to third.Arvind Kejriwal, AAP convener, stated that Chandigarhs victory is "a sign of the upcoming changes in Punjab.

" Already facing an anti-incumbency problem, Congress will now have to face a triple battle: the BJP-Amarinder Singh combination, the resurgent AAP and Akali Dal-BSP.After some farmer unions created a party within the party, the party that was looking to benefit from farmers agitation must rethink their strategy.

It will be necessary to prepare for the Punjab elections, as the Congress is at the heart of infighting within the state.It may not be as easy as Congress thought.
