Dhaka hosts the Bangladesh Investment Summit

Dhaka, Nov 29, : , A two-day international summit on investment has begun in Bangladesh’s capital to attract more foreign investors.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina opened the summit in Dhaka at a hotel in the city, joining her official residence Ganabhaban virtually on Sunday.

As the chief guest, she invited all investors to Bangladesh to invest in Bangladesh.According to Xinhua news agency, Dhaka will provide all support policy for creating an investment-friendly environment.

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), organized the summit, in which video messages from Ren Hongbin, China’s Vice Minister of Commerce, and Jeremy Jurgens Managing Director of World Economic Forum, were broadcast.

The function featured a screening of an audio-visual documentary entitled “Discover Limitless Opportunities” about Bangladesh.

The summit aims to showcase the potential of Bangladesh for foreign investors.

Hasina stated that 11 potential investment areas have been identified.

These include infrastructure, capital markets and financial services, electronic manufacturing, leather and automotive, light engineering, healthcare and medicine as well as jute-textiles, blue economy, and agro-products.

The government has developed sector-wise industrial development strategies, which the Prime Minister added to the National Industrial Policy.Finally, the Labor (Amendment) Act-2018 was passed.This law takes environmental protection projects into account and automates bond management to support growth in the export-oriented sector.

She stated that the government has constructed 39 high-tech parks, and is currently building 100 economic zones in phases.

She added that she had received investment proposals totaling $27.07 billion for the economic zones.

Hasina stated that $30 billion worth of investment proposals are awaiting implementation in 79 projects under the public-private partnership (PPP).

She spoke out about Bangladesh’s transition from one of the least-developed countries to a developing nation.She said that Bangladesh’s economy now stands at $411 billion, its foreign exchange reserves are $48 billion, and the per capita income is $2554.
