Kolkata, Nov 29, : Monday’s Calcutta High Court rejected Abu Sufian’s anticipatory bail plea for post-poll violence. Sufina was also an election agent for Chief Minister Mamata Bangerjee, who lost to Suvendu Adhikari (Nandigram) in the Assembly elections earlier this year.
She is now being accused of the murder of Debabrata Maity, a BJP supporter.
The bail petition was heard in part by Debangshu Basak’s division bench and Bibhash Ranjan De.The CBI objected to the bail petition and said that there were enough evidences to support Sufian’s involvement with post-poll violence as well as the murder.The court denied the bail application after accepting the CBI’s plea.The CBI can now arrest him.
The CBI had earlier arrested 11 people, including Sufian’s son-in law S.K.Habibul was arrested for their alleged involvement with the murder of Debabrata Maity, a BJP worker.
Although Sufian had been interrogated by the probe agency, his name was not included in the charge-sheet submitted by the CBI to the Haldia subdivisional court.
