Australian scientists create platform to combine machine and human intelligence

Canberra, Nov 30, : Australia’s national science agency has created a platform to combine artificial and human intelligenceTuesday saw the launch of the Collaborative Intelligence Platform (CINTEL) by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisations (CSIRO).

The new platform was funded with AUD $12million (US $8.5million) and will maximize collaborative human-machine intelligence, Xinhua news agency reported. It will work with the CSIROs Robotics and Autonomous Systems Group to create a human-machine team capable of performing rescue missions.

Cecile Paris, CINTEL platform leader, and Chief Research Scientist at CSIRO, stated in a media release that the project would focus on creating a richer, more dynamic human-robot collaborative, enabling humans to respond in realtime to changes in their environment and make better decisions together "CINTEL will study dynamic situation awareness and mechanisms to ensure that humans and robots can have a productive dialogue throughout, for instance, a rescue mission "Rescue missions can be ill-defined and dynamic. The humans must use their knowledge and skills like reasoning, intuition and adaptation to determine what the robots should do.CINTEL will examine how humans can use their unique skillsets in collaboration with robots to achieve successful outcomes.Another project is to create a team of cybersecurity analysts support.

The platform will be managed by Saber Astronautics and the Department of Defence, as well as researchers from Monash University, Monash University, and the University of Sydney.Paris stated that the platforms ultimate goal was to use collective intelligence to achieve the best results in a variety of fields.
