The men will only wear their indigenous kit for one of the three home ODIs they play this summer. That is the first against New Zealand, which took place in Perth, on January 30, 2018.

For the subsequent ODIs at Sydney and Hobart in February, they will switch to plain gold for their one-day kits.

For their ODIs next March/April in Pakistan, the men will once again be wearing the native kit. This will mark Australia’s 24th visit to Pakistan. In the 2022-23 summer, it may be used again in future ODIs.

The design was again created in collaboration with ASICS and two Indigenous women: Aunty Fiona Clarke (left) and Courtney Hagen (right). While the pair are integral to the sport’s attempts to engage the Indigenous community, Hagen has recently left her position as CA’s Indigenous engagement Specialist according to a cricket.com.au report.

Clarke is Kirrae Whurrong’s direct descendant of legendary cricketer Mosquito Couzens, also known as Grongarrong, one of the Aboriginal athletes who visited England in 1868 to be part of Australia’s first ever sporting team.

The new ODI kit features her Walkabout Wickets art prominently. It was first revealed in 2016, and it appeared on the collars for the Aussie men’s Test shirts in the 2019 Ashes.

The artwork also featured in the Border-Gavaskar series last summer against India. This artwork will be featured on both the women’s and men’s Test whites for their Ashes series.

Australia’s women’s team were the first to sport an Indigenous-themed shirt against England in 2019, and they have taken proactive steps in dealing with issues related to race within their sport.

Since the opening Test of 1877, four Australian men and two women, both from indigenous backgrounds, have been playing Test cricket in Australia.
