Bengaluru, Nov 29, : , Ather Energy, an electric scooter manufacturer, announced Monday that it has opened a second manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu to meet the increasing demand for its electric scooters.
The company plans to produce 400,000 units annually of its 450X e-scooters and 450 Plus e scooters.

This is a significant increase from the current 120,000 units.The facility will also be used to manufacture lithium-ion batteries.

Ather Energy had opened its first manufacturing plant at Hosur earlier in the year.

“We are now operating at full capacity after just 10 months since opening our current facility.

We are preparing the second plant for 2022.Ather Energy CEO Tarun Mehta said that Ather is on its way to becoming the country’s largest EV producer with this capacity expansion.

Ather Energy reported a 12-fold increase in sales last year, with a revenue run rate at $100 million.

According to the EV manufacturer, it has seen a 20% month-on-month sales increase since November last year.

The Hosur manufacturing facility allows for 90 percent of the production of 450X and Plus e-scooters.This includes the battery pack which is made in-house.

The company has committed Rs 650 crore over the next five year to improve operational efficiency and production capacity in order to meet the rapid increase in demand.

Ather Energy also stated that it plans to expand to approximately 150 experience centres in 100 cities by March 20, 2023.
