Guwahati : , Nov 26 : , To promote social harmony the Assam government will provide financial assistance under an intercaste marriage scheme to start a business or generate income, officials announced Friday. Officials from the Welfare of Scheduled Castes Department stated that the newly launched inter-caste marriage program would provide Rs 10,000 to Rs 5, lakh to any type of business or income generation project.
According to the official, the beneficiary must be married between April 2019 – March 2021.The couple’s annual income should not exceed Rs 5 Lakh.
A spouse must be a member of the Scheduled Caste, while the other must belong to a general or semi-official caste to be eligible to receive the benefits.
He stated that it had been seen on numerous occasions that inter-caste marriages were rejected by families, leading to many problems, including suicides.
He said that this scheme would promote harmony, positive mindset, and societal balance in the state.
