Christina Matthews, chief executive of Western Australia Cricket Association, said that there is growing concern that WA’s strict border policies could lead to the contest being moved from Perth. “I’d probably say that at the moment, I’m 50-50,” she said to ABC Radio.She also stated, “I’d been as high as 97%, but I’ve gone back 50-50.” We’ll see.For the Test to proceed in Perth, the Western Australia state government will need to relax certain restrictions.
Matthews stated earlier this month that she was “very optimistic” about the match in Perth, despite concerns that staff and players might need to be quarantined upon arrival.
She also stated that Tasmania’s plan to move the Test from Hobart to its original location was doomed.
Matthews was far from certain Saturday.
Matthews said, “It’s a matter whether cricket can fulfill those demands or not.”
“One of the problems for cricket is the high level technology required around the broadcast and the large number of people needed around it, compared to AFL broadcasts.Matthews stated that it is one thing to get the players in, but it is quite another to get the broadcasters.
The five-Test Ashes will begin in Brisbane on December 8.Australia retained the Ashes in the 2019 series in England, where they were tied at 2-2.
