P.Nadda has appointed Arun Sao as the state president of Chhattisgarh BJP with immediate effect.He will succeed Vishnu Deo Sai.Sao was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from the Bilaspur constituency in 2019.The BJP was looking into possibilities of an alternative leadership in Chhattisgarh prior to the year-end Assembly elections and to end factionalism.

The BJP has been in power in Chhattisgarh for 15 years between 2003 and 2018.Chhattisgarh Assembly polls will be held at the end of 2023.

In April, BJP central leadership held discussions of party matters in the state with the leaders of Chhattisgarh.Sources said that the central leadership is unhappy with the performance of Chhattisgarh BJP and pulled the states leaders for current affairs.ssb/shb.
