AP High Court imposed Rs 1000 fine on two govt officials for ignoring instructions

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has convicted IAS officer and current Panchayati Raj Commissioner Girija Shankar and the former Horticulture Commissioner Chiranjeevi Chowdhury in contempt of court orders case.In February 2021, 36 candidates filed a contempt of court orders suit in the AP High court against Girija Shankar IAS and Chiranjeevi Chowdhary.

They alleged that the officers did not fill the posts despite the court order.

Following a hearing on July 6, Justice Battu Devanand sentenced the two officials to nine days imprisonment and fined them Rs 1,000 each for violating the court’s order.

Also, the High court made it clear that if they fail to pay the fine, then the officials be sent for ordinary imprisonment for up to three days.

Responding to this, the officers pleaded with the court, pardoned and promised that, from now, they will be more careful while implementing the court orders.In response, the court amended the judgment.The court ordered them to remain in the court till the end of working hours along with a fine of one thousand rupees.

With this, the two officers remained there till the end of the court working hours.
