Anubrata Mandal is to not appear in CBI headquarters on Monday

Kolkata 7 August : Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mandal will not attend the visit to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office on Monday.

The CBI investigators were summoning Mandal to appear in the CBIs Nizam Palace office in central Kolkata on Monday afternoon for questions related to the smuggling of cattle in West Bengal.On Sunday, Mandals lawyer wrote an email asking for a longer time to show up.Dismayed by the development, BJP state president in West Bengal and party MP Sukanta Magumdar wondered what time Mandal can stay clear of appearance and questioning of the Central agencys sleuths."He is likely to get past the anxiety of being interrogated," Majumdar said.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Santanu Sen, said it was evident that the summons of Mandal was an manifestation of political vengeance, and Central agencies are used.The new CBI summons for Mandal was issued following recent raids by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at Birbhum, the residences of three of Mondals close associatesTudu Mondal, Mukti Sheikh, and Kerim Khan.Kerim Khan, Tudu Mondal and Mukti Sheikh.

Kerim Khan is a suspect in the case, and is under the surveillance of the CBI due to of his suspected involvement in the post-poll violence case, in which Mondal has been investigated by the CBI.According to the CBI, Kerim Khan is believed to be the main route coordinator for cattle smuggling from Birbhum to the districts bordering of Malda and Murshidabad from where the cattle heads were transported into neighboring Bangladesh.src/dp.
