The Andhra Pradesh state government has banned unlawful transportation of liquor from other states.

The ban applies on all liquor bottles from other States, and there will not be any exemption for even carrying three liquor bottles.However, the government will not revise the rule imposed by the central government, which permits to carry 2 litres of liquor from abroad.

State government allows International travellers to buy 2 litres of alcohol from duty-free shops, stated the CMO officials.

In a recent development, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has taken necessary steps to contain illegal transportation of liquor in the state.

Earlier, when AP state government has decided to reduce the alcohol consumption in a phase-wise manner, illegal transportation of alcohol from neighbouring States like Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu took place due to the price increase.

Specifically, unlawful traders have been transporting liquor bottles from Hyderabad to cities like Vijayawada and Vizag, which is causing huge revenue loss to the AP government.

The Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL), which is running the retail stores in the state, has urged the government to decide after it identified the illegal transportation of liquor from other States and its effects on the income of the excise department.
