Lucknow, Nov 28th : Union Home Minister Amit Sharma will lay the foundation stone of Maa Shakumbhari Devi University at the Behat Assembly constituency of Saharanpur on Dec 2. Shah’s visit to Uttar Pradesh is being seen by the BJP as a bid to win farmers, who are mostly from Jat communities in the west region of the state and Dalits.
Chief Minister Yogi Aityanath, who had previously announced the naming the university after Ma Shakumbari Devi will also be present at the event
Raghav Lakhan Pal, a former MP from Saharanpur said that the demand to establish a university was long-standing and would meet the needs of the youth.
“The Shakumbari Devi temple can be found in Behat, and the goddess is revered all over the West UP region.
He said that the people of Saharanpur were happy to name the university after the goddess.
Four of the seven Assembly seats in Saharanpur are held by BJP, two by Congress, and one by Samajwadi Party.
60 of the 80 seats in the west Uttar Pradesh region are held by the BJP.The challenge for the saffron party is to at least maintain the status-quo.
