Every sight and sound in this city evokes memories of my childhood.These memories are layered upon the stories shared and re-lived over the millennia.
Bombay is the only place where modernist, Victorian, and survival architecture can co-exist.Here, trees grow on cricket pitches and flowers bloom alongside industrial hubs.
Bombay is where I was born and where I still live.
This is the city Aggarwal lived in for most of his childhood.
It was the place he left behind 22 years ago to make a new life.Mumbai is a generous mother.
She filled his shoes and filled his mind with memories.
Aggarwal has always wanted to open a store in Mumbai, the fashion capital of India.
So he opened his flagship store at BEST Marg, Colaba.This experiential store is rich in culture and history, with a soundtrack that reflects the changing moods of the ocean.
Bombay’s ocean, sand, and breeze inspired the store.The space’s open layout and the use of iridescent textiles as decor reflect the city’s lights over its vast ocean.
The space has a modern language thanks to its dark grey matte floors, metallic grey walls, and sandy concrete furniture.The walls are not sharp and have smooth curves.
Custom-built amorphous furniture allows for the cool breeze to enter the space.
“This store is the story about my return to Mumbai.
The central installation is the objectification of that moment.It showcases a school amorphous creatures, each unique but in perfect synch, floating with one another to create a whole.
I used signature textiles such as metallic polymers and leftover metallic piping to design this space.This is a tribute to the city I returned to after 22 years.
