Interview of Vijayan’s wife, a pvt secy, begins amid protests for teaching position

Thiruvananthapuram : There are many complaints about Kannur Universitys alleged violation of rules in Kerala to "speeden the process of appointment".

The interview for the position began Thursday morning amid protests from the Youth CongressEarly Thursday morning, the Youth Congress activists arrived at Gopinath Raveendrans residence and locked down the gate.

Raveendran is being criticized by protesters because he is responsible for all of this and will be retiring in just a few days.Police had to deal with Congress protestors who put up stiff resistance.

In the end, the police used force to remove the protestors.Raveendran was able to drive his car forward because he needed to arrive on time for the interview online.

He told media that the interview would continue as planned during the chaos.Save University Campaign Committee along with others wrote to R.Bindhu, Kerala Higher Education Minister and Gopinath Raveendran, Kannur University Vice Chancellor to verify if UGC rules were broken while Priya Varghese was shortlisted for the position.Priya is one of the six applicants who were invited for an interview.

Priya was appointed Assistant Professor Malayalam at Kerala Varma College, Trissur, in 2012 by those who are opposed to how rules are being ignored.Those who opposed this argument pointed out that Associate Professors require a PhD and at least eight years teaching experience.Priya doesnt have these qualifications.

She claimed she was on leave from her PhD for three years.This cannot be considered as experience in teaching.

They also submitted that the two-year experience she had as student director at Kannur University during deputation, cannot be considered teaching experience.These factors are why she is not eligible to be an Associate Professor.
