All-India Police Hockey: Karnataka State Police overcome a scare and draw 1-1 to reach quarters

Bengaluru, Dec 7 : Hosts Karnataka State Police held Uttar Pradesh Police to a 1-1 draw in a tense Pool D match to advance into the quarter-finals of the 70th All India Police Hockey Championships here on Tuesday.

Playing in front of a boisterous home crowd, the Karnataka State Police created several chances in the attacking circle but could not convert.

After three quarters of goalless play, it was UP.Arvind Gaund, a police officer, scored the first goal in the match’s 49th minute.KSP trailing 0-1, KSP managed to keep their nerves in the final minutes of the match and score in the 54th minute.

KSP’s captain NB Pradeep scored a great field goal that secured them a place in the next round.KSP will face Jharkhand Police in Wednesday’s quarterfinal match.
In another thrilling match in Pool B Punjab Police rode on star striker Ramandeep Singh’s double goal to beat BSF Jalandhar 5-2.Despite a slow start, the experienced Punjab side won the match.Hatinder Singh conceded an early goal in the second minute.

After a slight setback, Punjab rebounded to put together a fine attack to score through Karanbir Singh (7’), Pawandeep Singh (8’), Kanwarjeet’Singh (19’), and Ramandeep Singh (19’ and 53’).As they face CISF Delhi, the Punjab Police will continue to show their fine form.
Meanwhile, Odisha Police beat Gujarat Police 11-0.This was in a one-sided match at Pool C.Goals were scored in by Ashok Lakra (2’, 36’, 43’, 47’, 47’), captain Anil Kullu (5’), Janerious Tirkey (16’), Sudh’r Barla (19’), Sudh’r Barla (19’), Sim’n Ba’la (32’, 58’) and Bij’y La’, 50’, 50’).The Tamil Nadu Police will take on the Odisha Police.
In a lopsided match, CRPF Jalandhar defeated Madhya Pradesh Police 6-0 during their group A encounter.B’kash Kujur (5′), Md.Mas’ullah Khan (7′), captain IgnaciusToppo (9′), Lovejeet Sing (11′), Rahul Sharma (21) and Ishqpreet Sing (37′) were the goal scorers.Although CRPF Jalandhar won this match well, they were unable advance to the next round.

In today’s first match, Tamil Nadu Police will face SSB in a women’s match.The Quarterfinal matches will follow.
