Bengaluru, Dec 8, 2008 : .In a thrilling quarterfinal match at the 70th All India Police Hockey Championships at Bangalore Hockey Stadium on Wednesday, Karnataka State Police beat Jharkhand Police. Umesh R Mutegar scored the 54th minute, which secured the hosts a place on the podium and a berth in the semis.Both teams performed well as they played on the same level.
After three quarters were played in a deadlock, KSP relied on the support from the home crowd to score an important win in the final minutes.
In another quarter final match, Tamil Nadu Police beat Odisha Police in a close-fought match.
TN got off to a great start with two goals.K Kaliraj (14′), and M Vijay (25) were the goals that put TN in a good position.
Odisha scored via Bikash lakra in the 55th minute, but it wasn’t enough to beat their opponent’s performance.
After a convincing 2-0 win over CISF Delhi, Punjab Police cruised into the Semifinal.
CISF Delhi was left behind by the early lead they took in the first quarter, thanks to Hardeep Singh’s goal at the 14 minute mark.They continued to make a strong start in the third quarter, with Dupinderdeep Singh scoring through a fine penalty corner at the 36th minute.
CISF Delhi was unable to penetrate the strong defense structure that Punjab police put up.
ITBP Jalandhar defeated CRPF Jalandhar 2-1 during a thrilling quarter-final match.Both teams had an aggressive start to the match, with ITBP scoring in 7 minutes through Jaswinder Sing and CRPF responding with Rahul Sharma’s well-struck field goal 12 minutes later.However, the match remained tense.
It was a penalty Corner CRPF conceded at the 41st minute, which Ravi Xess from ITBP brilliantly converted to give them a crucial 2-1 lead that eventually led to them winning the match.
Earlier in the day, SSB women defeated Tamil Nadu women 12-0 at a pool B match.
