Chennai, Nov 28, : On Sunday, the Crime Branch arrested K.Palaniswami, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, for promising a young man a job in the government. Police claimed that G.Mani and another functionary of the AIADMK, K.Selvakumar took Rs 17 lakh from Tamil Selvan hailing in Neyveli promising him a job in the government.
Mani and Selvakumar were unable to provide Tamil Selvan with a government job as promised.He demanded the return money.The duo returned Rs 4 Lakh and threatened Tamil Selvan to face dire consequences if he requested the balance amount.
Tamil Selvan approached the police, and a case was opened for cheating and criminal conspiracy against Mani and Selvakumar.This was done by the Salem police on October 2021.
The duo went underground immediately after this.Mani was taken into custody at Omalur, near Salem.Selvakumar remains at large.
IANS was informed by officers from the Crime Branch of Salem police that they are investigating whether the duo took money from other people promising government jobs.
