The government had just passed the farm laws repeal bill into Parliament a day before Tomar had said that Tomar had said that “Centre has also accepted unions’ demand for decriminalising the stubble burning by farmers.” The SKM also rejected Tomar’s claim.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced last week that he would repeal the three controversial farm laws.

This was in response to farmers who had been agitating for more than a year under the SKM consortium. The government therefore listed the bill to repeal three farm laws in Lok Sabha on Monday, the first day in the Winter session.

Tomar spoke with the media on Saturday to suggest that farmers end their agitation.

“Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar’s media comments were not correct or appropriate responses that are acceptable for the protesting farmers.” In stating that the PM-announced Committee has been established, the ‘farmers’ demand for MSP is fulfilled’, he is wrong and unreasonable,” the SKM stated in a release.

“It is patently absurd and illogical for a Committee to deliberate on the issues crop diversification, zero budget farming, and making MSP more transparent and efficient’ is to fulfill farmers’ demand on MSP!” The release also stated that Mr Tomar is wrong when he claimed that the Centre had also accepted the unions demand to decriminalize stubble burning by farmers.

SKM pointed out that, even though it isn’t called ‘penalties,’ The Commission for Air Quality Management within National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Act 2020 continues to have a section 15 called Environmental Compensation’.It states that the “Commission can impose and collect environmental damages from farmers causing pollution by stubble burning at such a rate and in such a manner as may be prescribed”.

The Agriculture Minister was silent about the Electricity Amendments Bill 20201, which is now listed for Parliament’s Winter Session.

Referring to Tomar’s comment that the withdrawal of cases against farmers and compensation to the martyrs are matters for state government, and that they will determine these matters, the SKM stated: “Punjab already holds commitments on both of these issues.Given that all other states are BJP-ruled and that the agitation arose because of anti-farmer measures taken by the BJP government of India, it is crucial that the Union Government makes the commitment. It has to ensure that BJP ruled states adhere to the commitment.

SKM also stated that Minister Ajay Mishra Tani, Minister of State for Homeland Security, was silent on the Lakhimpur Kheri-related demand for his arrest and dismissal. The government must also resolve several outstanding issues, according to the statement.

“Against this background, SKM also pointed out that the Union Government cannot hope for an end to the farmers’ protests in undemocratic and unilateral ways without resuming dialogue with them,” the statement stated.

The government will introduce and submit for consideration and approval The Farm Laws Repeal Bill 2020.

This bill will repeal the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act of 2020, the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act of 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act of 2020.It also amends the Essential Commodities Act (55).

The farmers indicated that they would “take a decision regarding further action at the next meeting of SKM” on December 4, with time given to Modi’s government to respond to the SKM letter. This will result in the Modi government suspending the Tractor March to Sansad planned from November 29.”

The Shetkari Kamgar Mahapanchayat took place at Mumbai’s Azad maidan. It saw a huge participation of thousands of farmers, with at least 100 organizations joining forces for the event.

The Mahapanchayat was thronged by peasants, farmers, agricultural labourers and women from all walks of Maharashtra.Several SKM leaders participated in the celebration of the historic victory over BJP-RSS government in the year-long farmers struggle to repeal the farm laws.

The SKM statement also stated that the SKM declaration declared its determination and determination to fight for the remaining demands.
