Despite 14 years of silence, Benazir Bhuto, former Pakistan Prime Minister, was assassinated after speaking at an election rally in Rawalpindis Liaquat Bagh.
The case remains pending at the Lahore High Courts Rawalpindi, Express Tribune reportedIn the attack against the ex-Pakistan premier, twenty party workers were killed while 71 were severely injured.Four inquiries into the case were made in the wake of the incident.
They included the JIT (police joint investigation), the Federal Investigation Agency, the UN (UN), and Scotland Yard.All four investigations were aimed at solving the problem.
The report stated that these investigations and inquiries did not yield any results because the Bhutto family decided to drop the case at the ATC.This case saw 12 challans filed, 355 appearances recorded, 10 judges changed, and 141 witnesses including 68 prosecution witnesses were called.16 people were charged in this case.Eight of these were not arrested.
In a drone strike, the main suspect, Baitullah Mehsud (Taliban commander), was shot to death.In encounters at various locations with intelligence agencies, five other suspects - Nadir Khan, Qari, Nasrullah (alias Saddam), Abdullah alias Saddam and Ikramullah - were also shot dead.
Saeed Blakel was the suicide bomber that attacked former Prime Minister.He died from the explosion.
Five suspects were arrested by police: Aitzaz Shah (Sher Zaman), Rashid Ahmed and Rafaqat.Hasnain Gul was also taken into custody.
In the same case, Pervez Musharraf (the former President of Pakistan), a former CPO Saud Aziz (CPO) and a superintendent (SP) Rawal Khhurram Shehzad were also detained by the FIA.They were granted bail later by the highest court.The special ATC judge Muhammad Asghar Khan pronounced his verdict on August 31st, 2017.
He acquitted five of the accused and declared Musharraf a fugitive for absenteeism.Additionally, permanent arrest warrants were issued and confiscated Musharrafs movable as well as immovable properties.
