In a surprising move, Congress rebel MLA Adala Prabhakar on Thursday withdrew his candidature from the Rajya Sabha elections.
After an hour-long discussion with his colleagues and talks with CM Kiran over the phone, Adala finally announced this afternoon that he will not be contesting the Rajya Sabha elections.
Announcing his decision, Adala said he was withdrawing from contest as YSRCP went back on its promise of supporting his candidature.After his withdrawal, elections to six Rajya Sabha seats from the State had become a formality.
Now all six members in the fray, KVP T.Subburami Reddy and MA Khan from Congress, Garikipati Mohan Rao and Thota Seetarama Lakshmi from TDP and K Kesava Rao of TRS are likely to be elected unopposed.He thanked the MLAs who supported him.He claimed that he had received calls from 22 MLAs asking him to contest elections.Congress Rajya Sabha candidates breathed a sigh of relief after Adalas announcement.
The voting for six Rajya Sabha seats will be held in the Assembly premises on Friday.
