Guwahati : , Nov 29, 2009 : .Police said that an All Assam Students Union (AASU), leader, was shot dead and two other people were seriously hurt by a mob in Assam’s Jorhat on Monday. Six people were arrested in connection to the violence.
According to police, 50 people attacked Animesh Bhuyan (AASU leader), Pranay Datta (AASU associate) and Mridusmanta Barruah (journalist) when they tried to help an elderly accident victim.
Police took the wounded to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital where they were declared dead by doctors.
Bhuyan, 30 years old, was Education Secretary for the Brahmaputra anchalik Committee under Golaghat District Unit of the AASU.
The AASU, a powerful organisation in Assam has demanded that all of the culprits be arrested within 24 hours.
