90% of Pakistanis believe that inflation is highest during Imran’s tenure

New Delhi, Dec 8, 2008 : A nationwide perception survey by Transparency International, released Wednesday, Dawn reported that more than 90% of Pakistanis believe inflation and price rises are higher under the PTI government than they were under previous governments.
According to the results from the National Corruption Perception Survey 2021 92.9 percent of Pakistanis consider inflation and price rise to be the highest in the current PTI government (2018)-2021, compared to 4.6% in the PML-N government (2013)-2018 and 2.5% in the PPP government (2008)-2013.”

85.9% of those surveyed stated that their income has decreased in the past three years.The report stated that 50.6 percent of respondents cited government incompetence, 23.3 percent cited corruption, 16.6% cited lack of policy implementation, and 9.6% attributed undue interference by politicians in government affairs.

85.9% of survey respondents believed that the federal government’s lack of self-accountability was unacceptable.

A further 66.7 percent of respondents perceived the government’s accountability drive as partial.

According to the survey, Pakistanis viewed police as the most corrupt sector (41.4%), followed by judiciary (17.4%) and contracting or tendering (10.3%).The report also stated that Pakistanis consider corruption to be a result of poor accountability, greedy powerful people, and low salaries.

According to the corruption perception survey report, the top three public services that people had to pay bribes for were roads contracts (59.8%), sanitation and garbage collection (13.8%), access to water (13.3%), and drainage system (13.1%).

The report stated that 41% of Pakistanis were open to harsher punishments when asked about ways to reduce corruption.34.6 percent called for accountability of public officials by expediting the National Accountability Bureau’s handling of cases of corruption.25.3 percent suggested that a total ban on corruption-related convictions from being elected to public office could reduce the corruption rate.

The report highlighted the findings that “a significant [part] of the] population (81.4pc), has declined to pay bribes and that there was a clear perception among the public that bribes were rather extorted through tactics such as delay or inaction in the provision of services.”
