Rio de Janeiro : Eight bodies found near Salgueiro favela, Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region, a day following a shooting incident during a police operation.

Local authorities said it was an accidental discoveryAccording to Xinhua news agency, the bodies of two officers were discovered in a mangrove on Monday by members from the Military Police Special Police Operations Battalion.

The officer had been killed while on patrol the night before.Police said that suspected drug dealers in the region engaged in a shootout during the operation.

They also stated that all the victims were male and wore camouflage uniforms.A local resident said that the bodies had been thrown in the mangrove swamp with evidence of torture.
