New Delhi, Nov 29, : , According to inputs from the National Disaster Management Authority of (NDMA), 673 Districts have Prepared District Disaster Management Plans.The Parliament was informed Monday.Responding to a question from a group of Parliamentarians about 80 per cent of vulnerable Districts, as mentioned in a study by think tank Council for Energy, Environment and Water, Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister for State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, told the Lok Sabha: “Contrary the statement made by the aforesaid CEEW Report, 673 Districts have Prepared District Disaster Management Planss (DDMP).
He said that the NDMA has published guidelines for the preparation the DDMP.
Additionally, the National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP), Prepared by NDMA for 2019, and the respective State Disaster Management Planss (SDMP) provide the overall framework for the preparation of DDMP.
The MPs asked whether the CEEW’s Climate Vulnerability Index report stated that 80 percent of Indians live in dangerous districts.
They also wanted to know if it was true that 463 Districts in the country are at risk from extreme flood, drought, and cyclone, and if the remaining 45 per cent are in danger of changes in their basic structure.
Choubey stated that the government is implementing a National Action Plan on Climate Change through National Missions.
These missions address climate change mitigation, adaptation across a variety of sectors.Thirty-three States/Union Territories have Prepared State Action Plans on Climate Change in line with NAPCC, taking into account the State specific issues related to climate change.
