43 people killed, 46 villages burnt, looted in Darfur

Khartoum : , At least 43 people were killed, 46 villages were looted and burned during a conflict between Arab nomads in West Darfur’s Jebel moon locality and farmers from the Misseriya Jebel tribal.
According to OCHA, the conflict broke out November 17, according to Xinhua news agency.

Initial reports indicate that at most 43 people have been killed and 46 villages have been looted and burned.Unknown numbers of people have been injured by ongoing fighting.

The Office stated that “a number of people are reported missing, including children”.

Sudan’s Darfur region has been the scene of civil war since 2003 under former President Omar al-Bashir.He was ousted on April 11, 2019.

The Sudanese transitional government sought to end the conflict in Darfur through an agreement that was reached on October 3, 2020.

However, some armed groups have yet to sign the agreement.

According to the 2021 Sudan Humanitarian Needs Overview, an estimated 66,500 people reside in Jebel Moon.

More than 43,000 people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.

According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification report (IPC), more than 13,300 people in Jebel Moon are in crisis or above levels of food safety between October 2021 and December 2021.

Security permitting, an inter-agency assessment is scheduled between November 29th and December 2 in order to determine the response needs and type of response needed, the OCHA said.
