In Odisha, 406 elephants were killed during the past five years

Bhubaneswar (Dec 7), The Assembly received Tuesdays notification that 406 elephants had died in Odisha between 2016-17 and 2020-21.

He replied in writing that 162 of the jumbos were killed in an accident and 11 were poached.He did not address the causes of death for the remaining 233 elephants.

This number rose to 157 in 2017-18, and 158 in 2018-19.

He said that 3,248 poachers were also arrested during these five years.
