UN refugee agency rescues 302 migrants illegally stranded off Libyan coast

Tripoli, November 20th : A total 302 illegal migrants were rescued from sea and brought back to Libya by the United Nations High Commission for RefugeesOn Friday, the UN agency posted this tweet: "302 people were intercepted/rescued at Sea last night in 3 operations and were disembarked In Tripoli And in Zawiya.

" It said that there were 52 women and 22 children among them.

The UNHCR, International Red Cross and UNHCR also provided aid to survivors.Libya is currently in chaos and insecurity since 2011s fall of Muammar Gaddafi, its former leader.

This makes Libya a popular destination for illegal migrants seeking to cross the Mediterranean Sea into Europe.Overcrowded reception centres in Libya are where migrants who have been rescued from danger end up, despite international appeals to shut them down.
