Lucknow : , Nov 22, 2012 – The Special Task Force and a Lucknow Forest team have taken three people into custody for trying to smuggle turtles. They were identified as Ravindra Kumar Kashyap from Malihabad and Saurabh Kashyap, both of Kakori.Arman Ahmad was also arrested.
Ravi Kumar (Lucknow’s district forest office) stated that at most 175 Indian-roofed turtles, 60 Indian tent Turtles, 19 Crowned River turtles, and 4 Indian-eyed Turtles had been recovered by smugglers.
They also recovered a motorcycle, Rs 2.460 cash and three phones, as well as other documents.
They were located near Indira Nagar Metro Station and they were taken into custody on Sunday.
Deepak Kumar Singh, Deputy Superintendent, Police and STF led the investigation.
They arrested the suspects as they tried to give the consignment over to someone.
Raman, the prime suspect, said that he had been involved in smuggling since childhood and maintained a network of contacts in Barabanki and Sultanpur as well as Rae Bareli and Unnao.
Raman claimed that he obtained turtles from fishermen for a modest amount.
