Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 29, : Despite concerns about the highly transmissible Covid Omicron variant detected abroad, three foreign nationals, two women, were among five people who tested positive for Covid-19 at Vrindavan within the last 48 hours.
The samples were sent to genome sequencing to determine which variant of the virus they are.

Dr Bhudev, the nodal in-charge for the rapid response team, stated that the coronavirus was detected in foreign nationals from Spain, Lithuania and Switzerland in RT-PCR tests performed prior to their departure to their home countries.

Only one of them, a woman from Lithuania, was fully vaccinated.

They are all Krishna devotees and were staying at the Girdhar Dham, Vrindavan.They had arrived in India on a tourist visa.

The two other Covid-positive patients are from the local area.

Dr Bhudev stated that Girdhar Dham where 16 people were staying was now a containment area.

44 people who were in direct contact with the Covid positive patients were tested for the virus.Their reports are still awaiting.

According to health officials, the woman from Lithuania was 30 years old.The Spanish woman is 44 years old and the Swiss man is 47 years.They are stable and have been kept in isolation at the ashram.

District Magistrate Navneet Sing Chahal stated that testing foreign nationals who are from countries considered ‘at-risk’ will be performed as a precautionary measure.
