The Bar Council of India announced Monday that 28 Uttar Pradesh lawyers were suspended by the Council.

They had been charged with filing false compensation claims in front of the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal, which is part of the Workmen Compensation ActThe apex body of lawyers noted in an official statement that the Supreme Courts recent order, which stated that 233 claims by various insurer companies, in response to the directive passed by Allahabad High Court in Lucknow to investigate cases of suspicious claims were denied or dismissed in default.This resulted in various claim petitions amounting to Rs 300,76,000.00,000.BCI also quoted the statement of the apex court that, "out of the 92 criminal cases registered in different districts, where 28 advocates were named as defendants in 55 cases," the investigation was concluded in 32 cases.
