26 Maoists killed in police encounter in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli

A fierce encounter took place between the security forces and the Naxals in the Garapatti forest in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, this morning.The Maoists suffered heavy casualties in this encounter.The death toll rose to 26.Gadchiroli district SP Ankit Goyal said three jawans were injured in the exchange of fire.

The C-60 commando unit of the Maharashtra Police was involved in the encounter.The C-60 commando unit was specially prepared to fight the Naxals in Maharashtra, similar to the Greyhounds in the Telugu states.

The Garapatti forest in the Gadchiroli district borders Chhattisgarh.The Maoists are considered to have a good grip in this area.

Naxal activities have been in full swing for a long time due to the area’s geographical location.

However, the C-60 unit is combing in the forest area as they have received information that a large number of Maoists were entering the Gadchiroli district from Chhattisgarh near Mardintola village.

The Naxals saw the police, and immediately, they opened fire.Hence, this led to a fierce encounter.

Police believe that the Naxals death toll is likely to rise further.
