Guwahati : , Thirteen people including the key suspect were arrested in connection to the alleged lynching in Jorhat of Animesh Bhuyan, leader of the All Assam Student’ Union (AASU).
Students’ bodies have announced that they will continue protests until the perpetrators are given “exemplary punishment”.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the police Tuesday to file a charge sheet within a month to speedy trial in a fast track court.He also directed Special Director General Police, Law and Order G.P.Singh personally to supervise the case and take immediate action against the attackers.

A magisterial investigation was also ordered into Monday’s horrendous incident.

Ranoj Pegu, Education Minister, visited Bhuyan’s home in Dergaon on Tuesday at the request of the Chief Minister.

He assured the family that they would punish the perpetrators.

The Chief Minister also announced a Rs 5 lakh aid for the family of the 30-year old AASU leader.

Police say that around 50 people attacked Animesh Bhuyan (AASU leader), Pranay Datta (AASU associate) and Mridusmanta Barruah (journalist).They tried to help an elderly accident victim, while many others watched.

Police stated that Neeraj Das, the prime accused, and 12 others were arrested so far and an investigation is underway.

Das was previously arrested in a drug trading case.

He was released on bail while there are no other cases against him.Bhuyan (30) was Education Secretary of Brahmaputra anchalik Committee, Golaghat district unit.

On Tuesday, Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya, chief advisor to AASU, and Dipanka Kumar Nath (president) visited the family members of the slain leader.Bhattacharya, while speaking to the media, asked the state government for full responsibility for Bhuyan’s family.

Nath stated that at least three lynchings have occurred in Jorhat and the surrounding areas in recent years.Unfortunately, the law enforcement agencies are not taking the appropriate action against the attackers.”We are alert to ensure that the investigation is thorough and not hampered by any lapses.The AASU leader stated that they would not restrain until the attackers were given exemplary punishments.

On Tuesday, protests were organized by various units of the AASU across the state in demand for justice for Bhuyan.

Many leaders, political parties, and organisations strongly condemned the incident.

They urged the government, including the youth wing, Congress, Anchalik Gana Morcha Raijor Dal, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Congress, Congress, Congress, Congress, and Congress, to take prompt and exemplary action against the perpetrators.
