Chennai, Nov 28, : On Sunday, the Tamil Nadu Health Department conducted its 12th mega vaccination campaign amid heavy rains in several districts. Officials claim that there were 50,000 vaccination centers in the state.
To inoculate people, Greater Chennai Corporation set up 1,600 camps.
Ma Subramanian, Tamil Nadu’s Health Minister, told IANS that this was possible because of the inspiring leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin and the unending spirit of health department personnel.
He spoke out about the threat posed to the state by the Omicron variant Covid and said that South African travellers who arrive in the state will need to be quarantined for eight days.
The Minister stated that Covid-19 vaccination was mandatory for all persons visiting public places, including those who visit Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation liquor stores.
He visited the Adayar mega vaccination camp with K.Ponmudi (Higher Education Minister) and stated that 77.3 percent of the population had been vaccinated with a first dose, while 42.10% were covered by the second dose.
Ma Subramanian stated that his state is close to the national average for Covid-19 vaccination.An additional 78 lakh people will be receiving the second dose.
The Minister stated that South Africa, China and Botswana, Hong Kong and Brazil will all be checked at Chennai International Airport to ensure there are no Omicron threats.
