London, 23 Nov : , In 2021, around 10,000 people called British Counter-Terrorism Police, according to a senior official. Matt Twist, London Metropolitan Police Special Operations chief, stated that around a fifth (50%) of public reports provided useful intelligence which assisted counter-terrorism investigations.
According to Xinhua, police in London have urged Londoners not to go into crowded areas following recent terrorist acts in Essex and Liverpool.
Twist stated, “It’s been 2 years since we were able to gather and enjoy London’s festive glory with some level of normality.”
“Tragically we have seen two terrorist attacks on Merseyside and Essex over the last few weeks.As a result the threat of terrorism has increased from’substantial to’severe.
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London has declared that New Year’s Eve festivities will be back in London after they were cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although the event will take place in London’s Trafalgar square, fireworks will not be displayed this year.
According to Merseyside police, a taxi that was carrying passengers exploded in front of a Liverpool hospital on November 14.One person died and the other was injured.
British police also indicted a suspect in the October murder of David Amess, a lawmaker in the UK.He was found guilty of preparing terrorist acts and being killed in church.
