After marriage, 1 out 6 S.Korean woman quits their job

Seoul, November 23, : , More than one in six South Korean women experienced a career change this year after they got married or had children.
According to Statistics Korea, the number of women between 15 and 54 who quit working in April was 1.45 Million.This is a decrease of 3.8 percent or 57,000 from the year before.

According to Yonhap News Agency, such women made up 17.4% of 8.32 Million married women in 2016, a decrease from 17.6% a year ago.

This year’s 2021 total was less than the 193,000 on-year decrease.According to statistics agencies, the decline in the number of these women is consistent with the fall in the marriage rate.

South Korea is experiencing a steady decline in births.

Many young Koreans are choosing to forgo the three most important milestones of life — marriage, dating and children having children.This happens because many cannot find good jobs and housing prices have skyrocketed.

The largest percentage of married women quitting their job, 43.2 percent, or 626,000., stated that child rearing was the reason for their departure.According to the data, 27.3 percent said that they quit their job because of getting married.Then there were 22.1 percentage who say that it was due to childbirths and pregnancy.

Age-wise, the top three ranked were those between 30 and 39 with 45.2 percent, followed by those 40 to 49 with 40%.

According to data, 2.61 million mothers working with under-18-year-old children in April.This is 66,000 less than the previous year.

In 2021, the total was less than the record-breaking on-year drop of 156,000 in the preceding year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In April, the employment rate of married women was 61.1 percent.This is an increase of 1 percentage point over last year.

South Korea’s October employment report showed that there was an eighth consecutive month of job growth.This is the latest indication that South Korea’s economic recovery continues despite the Fourth Wave pandemic.
